Riverside Paths Walk

2 Mile (3.2 km) Circular Walk
Terrain: easy
Mobile Phone Reception: good throughout
Nearest Defibrillator: Tesco

A great short shoreline, riverside and woodland walk. As well as watching the ferry and loch traffic, there are plenty of waterfowl to see, the possibility of spotting dolphins or porpoises and an occasional otter if you’re lucky!

All walks have been carefully researched, and we hope our directions are easy to follow! No liability can be accepted for injury or accidents incurred while undertaking our walks.

All walks are dog-friendly, but please be mindfu l of our many varieties of wildlife.

1. Starting at the Clock Tower at the junction of Quay Street and Argyle/West Argyle Street and facing towards the harbour, turn right and head along West Argyle Street, around the bend into West Terrace, following the loch side. Pass the junction to Seaforth Road and cross on to the grassy verge. Shortly after the litter bins, head down a slope to a six-bar gate (it is possible to walk around the gatepost). Continue past the site of the village bonfire to the loch side, turn right and proceed along the shore.

Hill Walking

2. At the headland, continue along the riverside until the path becomes tarmacked. Bear left along this path. Pass a flight of steps to your right and then turn left on to a wooden bridge which crosses two rivers. Turn right and follow the ‘Riverside Paths’ sign, keeping the river on your right.

Hill Walking

3. Continue until the track branches by a bench and fork left and then after a few metres turn left again (or right to head back up to the bridge on North Road where a right turn will take you back to the village centre) and head up a small rise to a play area and car park. At the end of the car park, turn left and head downhill through playing fields to rejoin the original outward route, back towards the bridge.

Hill Walking

4. Cross the river again and back along the tarmacked path. Here you can take the steps or a slope a little further on to your left. Both lead on to Castle Terrace. Turn left. 🞸

5. Where Castle Terrace meets Quay Street by Riverside B&B, turn right and head back to the Clock Tower.

🞸 Another option at 4. would be to re-enter the grassy area known as ‘The Bull Park’ to take the upper path back to the gate at West Terrace.
